Leading with Vision

Leading with Vision

If I were to ask you "what is your vision for your organization in 5-years," what would you tell me? Would you respond like so many owners or CEOs, telling me the dollar amount you want on the books for earnings? Or, would you perhaps respond in terms related to % of growth?

As business leaders, of course, finances are a critical factor, and they are often at the forefront of our thinking. But today, I'm challenging you to move beyond finances as we lean into the concept of Leading with Vision.

Consider this; a number is not a vision!

Let me repeat that, a number is not a vision.

The Next Generation

If you haven’t experienced the movement and shifts in the workplace brought to bear from Gen Y, I guarantee you will. According to some data, Gen Y will comprise 75% of the workforce. However, according to others they will account for 41.4%. What ever the exact number is, we should ask the question, Why is this important NOW?

It's important because these young people are electing not to join the corporate workforce, or they are leaving the corporate world in droves. Their greatest motivator is to work for a company where the work is meaningful, and they are valued for their contribution. They want to work for an organization that has a vision they can “grab hold of,” one with a story to tell. They want a stake in the game.

For these reasons and more, creating a compelling vision for your organization is not just “fluff;” it is critical to your future and the future of your workforce.

A Recipe for Success

  • Discover what it takes for your organization to become so compelling, your people come to work enthusiastic and ready to take on the world.

  • Create a clear and positive picture of the future state of your organization. A vision that is clear, positive, and realistic. The vision answers indirectly, the question of where your company is going.

  • The vision we help you develop must be visualized. It must move from an individual vision to a collective vision; one that helps employees prepare for and achieve the vision.
